how do i care for my jewelry?
we love our jewelry
Jewelry is something we associate with beautiful memories, loved people or successful moments. It has its own special meaning to all of us. So we also want to care for it. Good news is - it's pretty easy!
take on last, take off first
Most important and valid for all types of gold/silver jewelry with or without gemstones: TAKE ON LAST, TAKE OFF FIRST!
Jewelry doesn't like body lotion, parfume, desinfectants etc. Never spray parfume directly on your jewelry!
Make sure your jewelry is the last thing you put on before you leave the house in the morning and the first thing you take off before starting your nighttime routine.
1. clean your gold jewelry with soap
In general the recycled gold of JOHANNA STUDIOS jewelry pieces is very resistant. It's the perfect material for lifetime pieces as it's super easy to clean.
Sometimes the easiest things are the best and this is also true for gold jewelry cleaning. If your gold jewelry shine is fading, you can simply take a small bowl, fill it with warm water and add a drop of gentle soap. Put your beloved gold jewelry pieces in the bath and give the soap some time to work. Then you can take your pieces out of the bath and gently brush it with a soft toothbruch to remove residues. Simply dry your rings, earrings or bracelets with a soft cloth after and they will shine again like new!
2. store your silver jewelry as air-tight as possible
Everybody knows it, you buy a silver jewelry piece and it gets this dark surface after a while - making it loose it's shine and seem dirty. But why does silver jewelry tarnish?
Silver oxidizes. This is a completely natural process and not a bad thing in general. Especially if you know how to minimize tarnishing and care for your jewelry back to its special shine. Because oxygen tarnishes your silver jewelry, it's best to store it in an airtight place if possible. Jewelry boxes or similar are suitable for this purpose.
If you already have tarnished jewelry you can clean it out again with a silver polishing cloth or a silver bath. As easy as that. I can highly recommend the products by Hagerty.
3. let your gems shine
We love our eco lab grown gemstones for their brilliance. There's nothing more beautiful than a shining diamond.
That's precisely why it's so important that we take care of our gemstones, so that they always present themselves in the best light.
It's important to know that even a diamond being one of the hardest materials we know can be damaged if not treated with care. If your jewelry is exposed to large temperature fluctuations, if it comes into contact with perfume, cosmetics or household chemicals - it can damage the gemstone. But this won't happen if you take care of your jewelry. It's easy: all you need is some warm water, a little soap and a soft cloth. If you treat your favorite piece carefully, you can enjoy it for a lifetime!
4. store pearls separately
Pearls are beautiful timeless natural products - their typical pearl luster faszinates us since forever.
However, in order to maintain this luster you need to treat your pearls with care. To get a feeling of a pearls consistency - they are roughly as soft as a fingernail. This makes pearls prone to scratches and therefore it's best to store them separately in fabric-lined compartments.
In case of pearl necklaces it's also suggested not to hang them, but rather store them flat, in order to prevent them from stretching.
The easiest advice of all, however, is: wear your pearls often! Pearls do best in a moist environment, so wearing them frequently keeps them from drying out.
